Default Dawn, Lurcher, DOB 05.11 – Hayes, Middlesex

Dawn, Lurcher, DOB 05.11 – Hayes, Middlesex

Homing Requirements: Dawn needs a supportive family to develop her confidence and skill acquisition. Dawn needs understanding of her Lurcher traits like food searching and lever door opening. Dawn needs a secure garden with 6’ foot fencing. Dawn needs ongoing training to capitalize and build on her gifts and engage her intelligence. Dawn is learning to settle when left, and needs a supportive programme when meeting strangers in her home. Not for cats or small furries. Can live as an only pet or with another dog.

Her Story: Found tied to a tree on the 5th November with a desperate note from an owner who could no longer meet her needs due to their health issues. We came forwards for her at the end of November as a frighten girl, she had just been spayed, vaccinated and chipped. She had brief spells in foster, didn't cope in kennels and has been fostered with her foster family since late March. She has improved greatly since.

Advert: Dawn is at her Dawning! Offered the right opportunities she will develop a substantial skill base. She has emerged into her own delicate Lurchery self, credit to the dedication of her fosterers. Dawn is relaxed with her loved ones but can get barky with visitors and needs a non-threatening introduction programme with patience to settle her. She has been around and loves people and children. Dawn enjoys other dogs company, could live with another and likes to meet them on her walks. Housetraining took a little time to establish. She is now comfortable getting in and out of the car and settled when travelling within.

Dawn is a 2 year old fawn coloured small framed Lurcher. She is sensitive and needs support in transition. She travels well without sickness usually. Dawn is gaining confidence with her fosterers support, is very affectionate and loves to snuggle. She is gentle in all she is and does providing she trusts. Dawn has chase drive so is best retained on an extender lead; not for a home with cats. Dawn is embracing new experiences with support, bravely with aptitude and adapts with opportunities.

An update from Dawn's fosterers:

"Our Dawnie is coming on leaps and bounds, now doesn't bark at all at her 'Dad' when he comes in but waits at the window and smothers him in kisses when he comes home!! Is getting a lot better with visitors to the house and will go straight into her cage when the door knocks and greets most nicely.

We took her to a dog show fun day the other day with hundreds of dogs and people walking near her. She was the perfect dog, a little scared at first with her tail between her legs but soon realised that everyone there was not a threat and even let tiny children come upto her for a stroke.
We had never really seen her with children before and in an outside environment (on a lead of course) she seemed calm and loving the attention.
She greeted all the dogs well after getting a little excited in the back of the car on the way in and howling like a baby when she couldn't get to them to play!!

She now has her routines and takes herself off to bed when she sees we are locking up at night. By the time we come upstairs she is snoring happily next to our bed! She will sleep until we get up, then goes down for her breakfast and toilet then takes herself of to bed again for forty winks before her morning walk!!

Have found she is not too keen on cats and nearly launches herself through the window when one is in the front garden! Crying like a baby and jumping around!!

She is happy to be left in her cage for upto 3 hours if we occasionally have to leave her at home but prefers going to her 'uncle les's' house to play with her doggy friend to be babysat!

She is an excellent traveller, loves the car and the van and going for drives to the country.

She loves it when both me and Naeem are at home with her, giving her loads of attention and playtime with her tennis balls.

Still is not good on recall as chases anything in her site and could quite easily get lost if she was off lead in open spaces.

She is also happy to go to work with Naeem at the Gym and sits and watches the goings on there. Always keeping an eye that her dad doesn't go out of her site though!!

Very special girl sat doing a few emails at the gym"!!!

Dawn is still available for adoption – if you are interested in offering a home please complete our homing questionnaire on this link: https://rescueremedies.wufoo.com/forms/r7x3s5/
