Hi Anita, thanks for joining RHU.

To be given 'Rescue status' on RHU (which gives Rescue's the ability to post requests for fosterers, transport etc.) one of our requirements is that all cats & dogs must where possible be vaccinated prior to rehoming/fostering (unless this isn't possible due to medical reasons).

If there's anything we can do to help you aim towards vaccinating dogs and cats in future I'm sure there'd be plenty of people here who'd love to help

Our cats are vaccinated . We will vaccinate dogs but the cost of the vaccinations must be met by the new owner. This is what our dog adoption forms stipulate.

Sorry to nitpick, just making sure we have the right details. So, if a new owner said they didn't want to pay for the vaccinations do you rehome the dog without getting it done?

No,they wouldn't be allowed the dog. Before our dogs leave the pound with thier new owner an appointment is made for them at our vets. The dog is given a health check, chipped, 1 months insurance, first vaccination and an appointment to be spayed or neutered. We pay for everything but the vaccinations

From what I can tell Chrissie, this rescue are the 'backup' for the dogs and rehome from the kennels, so I don't think they will post the dogs in the 'Rescue backup needed' section.

Hopefully Anita will confirm, but that's the way I see it.

So in other words, the pound let the rescue rehome from there?

I guess if that is the case it is an improvement from pounds rehoming *blind* with nothing done so to speak.

We have worked in conjunction with the council for 30 years. The dogs are either picked up off the streets or given in at the pound by the owners. The council support these dogs for the first 7 days. They are then turned over to Animal Refuge BUT stay in the pound. We then pay board to the council for each dog. They are vet checked every week and accessed by the staff at the pound. They go to thier new home from the pound after the prospective owner and family have been interviewed and home checked. From the pound they go to the vets for chipping, health check.vaccinations and a spaying/neutering appointment.Animal Refuge pay for everything exept the vaccinations and these must be paid for by the new owner. We deal with 300-400 dogs each year.
I won't post for Rescue back up because I am the rescue.

Its the only way we can work things here for the poundies. No kennels in this area want anything to do with them. It's not too nice for the dogs after all a pound is a pound.
